Sophie Middlemiss

Sophie is an international affairs and strategic communications consultant with a decade’s experience at the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), where she worked as a speechwriter to the Foreign Secretary, in the Strategy Unit, and on the UK’s Russia policy (amongst other things). As a strat comms consultant, Sophie has written op-eds and speeches for leading global figures including heads of government and leaders of international organisations, and had her work published in NewsweekTIME magazine and The Observer.

Sophie worked at strategic communications consultancy Portland Communications (2010-11) as a Senior Account Manager, managing global communications campaigns for clients such as UN Women, The Elders and the Kofi Annan Foundation. In 2019 she returned to Portland Communications as a writer, authoring speeches and op-ed articles for figures with global profile. As a travel writer, Sophie has written for Rough Guides on travelling in Russia, Serbia, Hungary and Kosovo and is the author of a forthcoming Insight Guides/Berlitz city guide to Belgrade (published May 2020).

She holds a Masters’ degree in International Relations from LSE (with distinction) and a first class degree in History from the University of Cambridge.
